Les is a full time production turner based in Alresford in Hampshire. Brought up in the timber industry, he trained as a saw doctor and helping to run the family saw mill business until its closure in February 1998. He then moved on to working in his fathers woodturning shop before taking up turning encouraged by many professional woodturners of the time and helped along the way by Stuart Mortimer, Gary Rance, Jimmy Clewes and Phil Irons. In addition to production turning he spends time teaching and travelling the country demonstrating woodturning.
Les was awarded a bursary in 2007 enabling him to spend time with Nick Agar and Stuart Mortimer advancing himself as an ‘artistic’ woodturner.

Les says: "I have always been fascinated by texture so it seemed logical that my work would progress down that route. I want people to pick up my work and feel the warmth that it has especially over other mediums like ceramics or glass. My current work involves sand blasting, burning and the use of a recently acquired air brush enabling me to produce affordable art to bring woodturning into the realms of collectability. The majority of my time is spent manufacturing useful every day items and it gives me a great deal of satisfaction when someone buys my work for its aesthetic appeal."
