Margaret was drawn into woodturning after visiting a friend and trying her hand at turning in his shed at the bottom of the garden. She then became a member of the Jorvik woodturning club. This club influenced her in her early days as it provided her with challenges that did stretch her abilities, and it did, as she won many 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes at the competitions. She then started to enter national competitions and won prizes there also.

Margaret started to do some production turning for a bespoke hardwood furniture company in 2000, and also was invited to give woodturning demonstrations to woodturning clubs; specializing in involuted turning from 2002. In 2001 she became a member of The Association of Woodturners of Great Britain.
Margaret has gained her knowledge of woodturning from her club, an afternoon further education class; visiting shows and symposiums, she also won a first prize at the International woodturning exhibition at the NEC, which took her to la Moulin in France for some tuition with Mick Hanbury. Binh Pho visited England in 2005 and she, with others, spent three days with him. This time with Binh has influenced her work today and she is always interested in gaining more information about the art of woodturning.

Margaret says " The Worshipful Company of Turners enabled me to visit the internationally known turner Alain Mailland in France though the bursary award, which they granted me in 2007. The time spent with Alain was very interesting, informative and inspirational, increasing my technical ability, in his creative artistic field. This will influence my future work.
The beauty of each piece of work comes from the timber beneath the bark of any tree, two pieces of work maybe similar in shape but will be completely different due to the grain pattern and texture of the wood, this adds to its character and makes each piece unique."
Galleries where Margaret's work has been placed include the: Daniel Collection, Biscuit Factory, Newcastle, The Association of Woodturners of Great Britton travelling exhibitions in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007 and in From the Wood, Hay-on-Wye.
Her work has also been featured in a range of publications, including Woodturning, Woodturner and Woodworker.
